Kontakt Case Study #01: Revitalizing Creativity – Transforming Henry’s Camera Web Series

July 25th, 2024 – In the ever-evolving landscape of branded content, standing out requires not just creativity, but also strategic vision and technical expertise. Henry’s Camera is a renowned Canadian retailer specializing in photography and videography equipment. They faced the challenge of revitalizing their web series, Calling The Shot, to better engage their audience and highlight their product offerings with fresh video content.

The Challenge

Henry’s Camera approached Kontakt Films with a clear objective: to breathe new life into Calling The Shot, which previously featured various hosts and diverse storylines throughout the episodes. Seeking a more cohesive approach, Henry’s desired a single-host format focusing on specific tools and topics within the production workflow. This shift aimed not only to streamline their content but also to enhance brand consistency and audience engagement.

In this episode of Calling the Shot, we used Canon Speedlites and took a look a various flash and shooting modes, as well as different placement and techniques for lighting.

The Solution

Over the span of nine months, Kontakt Films collaborated closely with Henry’s Creative Director Chris Frampton and his team to conceive and produce nine compelling episodes plus Social Media teasers which totalled over forty minutes of branded video content. Central to their strategy was leveraging their deep understanding of camera systems, photography, and cinematography to craft episodes that seamlessly integrated Henry’s products into actionable tutorials and engaging narratives.

Gajan Balan, an emerging talent in the industry, was selected as the host, bringing a fresh perspective and dynamic presence to the series. Under the guidance of Director Adam Bialo, Balan’s on-screen performance was refined, ensuring each episode maintained a cohesive tone and delivered key messages effectively. This collaborative effort not only ensured a smooth production process but also enriched the final edit with diverse takes and polished deliveries.

Modern music was carefully curated to set an energetic tone and the graphics were meticulously designed to help aid the viewer with the technical camera specs discussed.

The Result

The culmination of this collaboration was a series of videos that not only met but exceeded Henry’s expectations. The episodes showcased the capabilities of products from leading brands like Canon, Sony, and Fuji while providing valuable insights, tips, and tutorials for Henry’s audience.

The impact was tangible: the Calling The Shot episodes and teasers produced by Kontakt Films garnered nearly one million views on Henry’s YouTube and Social Media Channels to date.
